When Do I Stop Being Dangerous? (Spoiler: Never, Genius) Navy SEAL Mindset about the big “D”s

Last week I talked about having a big D: Discipline, Decisiveness, Drive, and Dangerous. And ever since, people keep asking me the same question: “Jay, at what point do I stop being dangerous?” Guys. I’m going to answer that right now. You stop being dangerous when you’re dead. That’s it. That’s the whole answer. I sat down with Sifu Alan Baker, a guy who holds belts in over 25 martial arts and has pursued the warrior path harder than anyone I know. He told me something that changed how I think about aging and training: young alpha bucks walk into his camps thinking they can take the “crusty old black belt.” And most of the time, they’re right, strength for strength, he can’t compete anymore. But he beats them anyway. Not with strength. With strategy, experience, and a dangerous mindset that never quits.

This world is dangerous. Business is dangerous. Life is dangerous. There are people out there who will try to take advantage of you and your family, and the perception of strength is almost as powerful as strength itself. If people sense doubt about whether they could actually take you, 90% of the time, that doubt stops them cold. So no, you don’t get to retire from being dangerous. You adapt. You get strategic. You keep showing up. As General Mad Dog Mattis said: “Be nice to everyone you meet, but always have a plan to kill everyone in the room” This is Monday Muster. Stay dangerous.
